Today, Facebook announced a revamped News Feed for the web and mobile, offering a consistent Facebook experience across all devices. The fresh new look offers an even greater emphasis on photos, videos, events, and articles. The new News Feed also includes improved exploration options: Facebook says that the updates for the iOS applications will roll out “in the coming weeks.” Android updates will follow. The rollout for the web version on computers will begin today....

We reported this morning that Facebook’s App Center appeared in its iOS app for one user, perhaps indicating a launch this evening. Just as we predicted, the time has come. Facebook is currently holding an app-themed event to go over features. The company said it would push the App Center heavily on the left-hand sidebar on both the desktop version and mobile version of the app....

The Wall Street Journal reports Facebook is working on a new camera app separate from its main offerings that the company hopes will encourage increased sharing of photos and videos. The still in-development app in its current form opens immediately to a camera mode and there are plans to offer live streaming video functionality as well, according to the report: Last month Facebook unveiled its latest product updates and upcoming projects at its F8 developer conference....

Facebook has announced that it will be dropping its ‘Trending’ feature that promotes popular news content on the platform. The change comes as the company is working to refresh and improve its user experience. Detailed in a press release, Facebook says that its trending feature was only available in select countries and didn’t prove to be popular. The company says that removing trending will “make way for future news experiences” and that most users are now consuming news and content through video on the platform....

Facebook Live restrictions have been introduced in response to the New Zealand terrorist attack, when the gunman live-streamed footage of the shootings, making good on a promise made back in March … However, while Facebook makes the move sound tough, describing it as a ‘one strike policy,’ the details are vague and the remedy seems weak. The company announced the new approach yesterday. The vagueness arises from the fact that Facebook doesn’t list the specific violations which will trigger the Facebook Live restrictions, nor does it specify the time-outs that will be imposed, merely giving 30 days as an example....

Android has a Facebook app, that got revamped a little while ago, as well as a standalone chat app, called Facebook Messenger. Chat works well from the main app, too. Facebook today introduced two new features for Messenger called Message Reactions and Mentions. The previously rumored Message Reactions feature is getting comparisons to Apple’s own iMessage features introduced with iOS 10, allowing users to react to individual messages in a conversation with various emojis: The person that sent the original message will then see a small animation indicating a reaction was made to one of their messages, or if the app is closed, they’ll get a notification on their device much like a regular message has been received....

Facebook iOS and Android apps are testing a new option: the ability to turn off red dots at the bottom of the screen and throughout the app … The Facebook app uses red notification dots to signal new content available in things like videos and groups, but many people find those annoying rather than helpful. Especially as you have to tap each in turn to remove it. TechCrunch says that Facebook had initially used the dots to drive greater usage of the app, but now realizes that may not have been the smartest approach....
